Donnalee Cotone, RMR, CLR, CRR

NCRA Realtime Systems Administrator

Donnalee Cotone has achieved an enviable reputation in her three-decade career, gaining extensive exposure as a court reporter in expert witness depositions, hearings, and arbitrations involving a wide range of specialty subject matters.   Her years of experience reporting testimony in complex litigation – medical malpractice, technical and engineering matters, financial services, governmental regulation, intellectual property – have put her at the forefront of court reporting professionals.  Her superior skill is recognized by clients who routinely request her services, confident in the quality of work they will receive.  Her clients know the whole range of court reporting services is available from Donnalee on demand, whether same-day rough drafts, daily copy or expedited transcripts are needed.

Donnalee graduated (with Honors) from the Academy of Court Reporting in Cleveland, Ohio, in 1986.  Her outstanding performance as a student earned her the Academy’s coveted Martin Fincun Award.   She volunteers her time today to the school’s student mentorship program.

Donnalee relishes a professional challenge.  She says, “The best things in life are the things we’re most afraid of.”   Her professional certifications are a testament to her accomplishments. She holds both the national Certified Realtime Reporter and Realtime Systems Administrator certificates.  Those credentials prove she is in the top tier of reporters who can provide instantaneous realtime output to her clients’ laptops or realtime streaming text over the Internet, typically to offsite attorney clients or their experts.  She also provides personal captioning services as a CART provider for deaf and hard-of-hearing attendees at meetings and seminars.   Her work as a captioner for NASA engineers is a career highlight, Donnalee says.

Donnalee brings passion to her work as a volunteer.  She accepted the challenge early on by demonstrating realtime for the Cleveland-Marshall College of Law Trial Courtroom Grand Opening, and has regularly helped educate attorneys and court reporters about the latest in court reporting technology.  She is a career-long member of the National Court Reporters Association and the Ohio Court Reporters Association, and is currently immersed in a joint project of those two associations called Taking Realtime and Innovation Nationwide.  The goal of the TRAIN program is to help court reporters meet the challenge of realtime reporting, a source of anxiety and fear for many court reporters.  Donnalee’s long-time involvement as a trainer and mentor is invaluable for her role in TRAIN.
